Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Joins Operation Summer Slam
Tampa, Florida – Starting at 5 a.m. Tuesday, law enforcement is rounding up wanted felons in Hillsborough County.
Operation Summer Slam is a joint operation between the Tampa Police Department, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office and Temple Terrace Police Department.
The operation continues through Wednesday at 11 p.m. in north Tampa, including Copeland Park, which is located at 11,001 North 15th Street in Tampa.
By 12 p.m. Tuesday, 38 people had been arrested. More arrests were expected.
The operation will also include concentrated patrols in high-crime areas, traffic and DUI enforcement starting Tuesday afternoon. A community-oriented initiative with bicycle patrols is also part of the effort.
The goal of Operation Summer Slam is to combat the spike in crime that is typical in summer months, according to Tampa Police.
“I wish I knew why there was more crime during the summer,” said Lt. Charles Courtoy of the Tampa Police Department.
The three agencies planned to make arrests on 600 warrants through Wednesday night.
